Reaching out to families in need and teaching our children about civic responsibility is an important part of Mom to Mom.
Currently, our focus is on assisting refugees recently arrived in Portland. Stay tuned for instructions from M2M’s Outreach Coordinator on how you can get involved!
What We've Done:
Past outreach has included providing meals for families of children with cancer and other serious illnesses during their stay at the Ronald McDonald House (a partnership we maintained for more than ten years, longer than any other local organization). Starting in 2005, Mom to Mom partnered with The Root Cellar to provide low-income families with a Thanksgiving meal. We annually donated over 200 pumpkin pies and, along with our children, help pack over 400 Thanksgiving food boxes. To celebrate the season of giving, members also participated in our annual holiday gift drive. Through Catholic Community Charities, members “adopted” recently-arrived refugee families during the holidays, also since 2005.
In fact, Mom to Mom has supported many different organizations since our inception in 2000. Our members frequently join together to support local families in need by donating baby items, toys, winter clothing, books, household items, etc. Over the years, members have organized donation drives for Family Crisis Services, Project G.R.A.C.E., Department of Health and Human Services, Catholic Community Charities, and a shelter serving homeless teenage mothers. Mom to Mom has also provided donations to The Children’s Closet, The Opportunity Alliance (formerly known as PROP – People’s Regional Opportunity Program), and Coats for Kids.
Mom to Mom members are encouraged to share information about the causes they are passionate about through our newsletter and online community. We are always looking for new community outreach opportunities and welcome ideas and suggestions from our members!
